Be prepared - Maintain your health!

Are you ready to maintain your health during an emergency or a disaster? Do you have the supplies you need to take care of illness and injury if you are not able to get medical help, or even buy cold medicines during a period of natural disaster?

One of the best ways to be prepared is to practice prevention at all times. Following good health practices to avoid unnecessary exposure to people who are ill, and keeping yourself healthy and strong through good nutrition and exercise enable you to be better prepared in a time of added stress.

You may want to consider taking vitamins and supplements to improve your immune system and help your body to resist and fight off illness.

To be prepared you should have a good first aid kit and supplies on hand, as well as a supply of the vitamins, supplements, medications, and over the counter medicines you normally take and might need during an emergency.

Rotate these items the way you rotate your food supplies. For example, if you purchase one month supply of vitamins at a time, try purchasing two months and then continue to buy a month supply from then on each month. That way you always have at least one month supply in your storage. Do the same thing with medicines. Buy ahead for what you anticipate you might need. When you use those medicines replace them so that your storage supply is always at least stocked for a month.

It is a good idea to have at least one person in your family trained in Wilderness First Aid and CPR. This will enable you to care for injuries when medical help is not available.
